Our Mission

Nuku Studio is a Ghana-based hub for photography, education, and cultural exchange. We support emerging and established photographers by offering a space to create, collaborate, and engage critically with visual storytelling.

Rooted in West Africa and connected globally, Nuku provides mentorship, workshops, exhibitions, and archival initiatives that strengthen the role of photography in documenting and shaping social realities. Our work fosters a sustainable, inclusive photography community committed to responsible storytelling and cultural preservation.

Founded in 2015 by photographer Nii Obodai, Nuku Studio builds on two decades of practice and partnership, helping photographers in Ghana and beyond develop their craft and amplify their voices.

Creative Roots

Nii Obodai

Francis Nii Obodai Provencal was born–and is currently based–in Accra, Ghana. He has also lived in England, and Nigeria. Provencal’s work explores our expansive relationship with aspects of urban and rural culture, and the environment.

His camera is not a detached eye, but a tool for conscious expression of self-discovery: both on his part and for others involved in front of his lens or, part of the audience seeing his work. Nii Obodai has exhibited widely.

Francis Kokoroko

Francis Kokoroko is exploring the field of photography as a creative and photojournalist. With keen interest in documenting the ever evolving cultures and everyday life on the Africa continent. Presently living in Accra, Ghana, Francis Kokoroko's works span across West Africa.

Andrea Stultiens

Trained in photography and research (BFA, MFA, MA) in the Netherlands, Andrea is completing a practice-based PhD while running a hybrid artistic practice that moves between photography, research, curation, and teaching. Her work centres on photographic archives from the African continent, particularly Uganda. She digitises, shares, and activates previously inaccessible collections through platforms like www.HIPUganda.org, as well as through exhibitions and publications that serve both as research outcomes and as steps in an ongoing process of exploration and engagement with history.

Dennis Akuoku-Frimpong

Dennis Akuoku-Frimpong is a documentary photographer who lives in Accra, Ghana. He uses photography as medium of visual documentation for tomorrow’s historian. He has in-depth interest in the diversity of culture, rituals and religious practices across Africa. Currently he is working on his project “I Am Hindu”.

Eric Gyamfi

Eric Gyamfi (born 1990 in Ghana) is an artist living and working in Accra, Ghana. Eric has a B.A in Information Studies and Economics from the University of Ghana. A grantee of the 2016 Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund award, Eric is currently a second-year fellow at the Photographer’s Master Class (Khartoum, Sudan 2016 and Nairobi, Kenya 2017).

He was an invited participant in the Nuku Studio Photography Workshops (2016) and World Press Photo West African Master Class (2017), both in Accra. Eric’s work spans across photography, sound and recently print making.
